I'm recently a new customer. Was completely and utterly blown away by the efficiency of my massage lady, was kind caring and considerate and gentle. Genuinely patient and very, very professional. It was one of the most enjoyable moments in my recent life. Was life changing. Was perfect, and I am so, so impressed I'm now booking regular appointments before the time I spent with Laki (masseuse). I'm completely sold — a new customer and a new believer, impressed with a technique built on 5,000 years of knowledge of the body, tending to muscles that have suffered through lack of physical attention. Would recommend Laki and Red Peony to everyone, in your 20s, 30s, 40s onwards — it's such a valuable experience. Really, honestly, future customers reading the reviews: I'm always full of trust and always truthful. I'm 65 and very experienced through my life — martial arts for 40 years.
Waxing Aftercare: How to Keep Skin Smooth and Reduce Irritation
Waxing leaves skin smooth, but it’s also freshly exfoliated and a little more sensitive than usual for the first day or so. A few simple aftercare habits make a real difference to how comfortable — and how smooth — your skin feels afterwards.
In the first 24 hours
- Skip tight clothing. Leggings, skinny jeans, and synthetic fabrics can rub against freshly waxed skin. Loose, breathable clothing gives it room to settle.
- Avoid heat and sun exposure. Hot showers, saunas, and direct sun can all irritate the area — lukewarm water is a safer choice for the rest of the day.
- Leave it alone. Touching or scratching the area, even lightly, increases the chance of irritation or an ingrown hair later on.
Soothing mild redness
A little redness or sensitivity straight after waxing is normal and usually settles on its own within a few hours. If you want to help it along, a fragrance-free, alcohol-free moisturiser is a gentle option — steer clear of heavily perfumed lotions or anything with alcohol in it for the first day, as these tend to sting rather than soothe.
After the first day or two
Once the initial sensitivity has passed, gentle exfoliation every few days helps prevent ingrown hairs and keeps skin smoother for longer between appointments. There’s no need to start straight away — give it 48 hours first.
Everyone’s skin is a little different
Some people barely notice any redness at all, while others are more sensitive for a day. Both are normal — if you know you tend to react more, it’s worth mentioning to your therapist beforehand so they can adjust the approach.
